The Quinceañera – Recession Style

The Quinceañera – Recession Style

We’re not sure if Obama’s stimulus package coveres quinceañeras, so we thought we’d better share a story that the Sun-Sentinel newspaper in South Florida published Sunday with tips on how Latinos are cutting costs in order to keep the tradition alive. With the average party costing between $5,000 and $10,000, and all of us in the middle of a recession, we could all use these tips.

Some of the Tips:

  • Bakery owners say some parents are now asking to pay for cakes in installments.
  • Some girls, who traditionally have more than a dozen girls and boys in their quince court, are slimming down to just a few.
  • Rather than have the quince the same month as the girl’s birthday, some parents are delaying the celebration to hurricane season, when they can rent a banquet hall for less money.

The newspaper article has the rest of the tips and more good stuff.
