LA Metro launches Spanish-language blog

The LA Metro launched a Spanish-language blog and Twitter account Friday to help Metro connect with Spanish speaking consumers.

“We have to recognize that the majority of our customers are Latino,” said Marc Littman of Metro in an LA Times article. “We want to put a Latino face on Metro so people can identify that it’s not just white bureaucrats running this agency.”

The blog will share content with Metro’s English-language blog and also offer unique content. The Twitter feed has 27 followers as of this morning. At least 61% of Metro’s bus and rail passengers are Latino, as well as 37% of the agency’s employees, Littman said.

Will New York follow LA.’s lead?

New York City’s Mass Transit Agency told Dos Lives this morning that they have no plans to offer Spanish-language Tweets or Facebook updates. The spokeswoman said the agency offers Google Translate on their website,, for a variety of languages.
