Cinco de Mayo Celebrates: Mario Lopez

Cinco de Mayo Celebrates: Mario Lopez

Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico’s Independence Day, it is a holiday that commemorates the Mexican’s victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. It has been said that “The Puebla victory came to symbolize unity and pride for what seemed like a Mexican David defeating a French Goliath.”

Today, there are Mexican descendants that have made impressive imprints in American culture and we are happy to honor their achievements on a day that we are no doubt very proud of, so grab your margaritas and yell out loud “Que Viva Mexico.”

Mario Lopez is of Mexican descent and the role of A.C Slater on Saved by the Bell brought him directly into a memory that one will never forget. He is currently host for the show Extra and is also hosting America’s Best Dance Crew on MTV. He is not one to mess around with.  When he was told Taboo of the Black Eyed Peas called him the “Mexican Ryan Seacrest”—out of admiration and respect, of course—he wasn’t feeling the comparison: “Well, Taboo is a very talented, great guy, so thanks for the compliment. But I’m looking to be the first Mario Lopez. I don’t follow in anybody’s footsteps. I host, I produce, I act, I dance, I’ve done Broadway, and I’m an author! There’s a lot more going on in different areas of my repertoire.”

Calmate Mario, Taboo never meant you were anything less that Ryan pero to be called the Mexican anything should be an honor. You are one of the best looking Mexicans out in the Entertainment world so own up to it.
