Gunfire kills one and injures 4 on Brooklyn Boardwalk
Gunfire erupted on Brooklyn’s Brighton Beach Boardwalk Thursday evening around 5:20 killing one man and injuring four others. Police are questioning one suspect, but have made no arrests. Thursday was Brooklyn-Queens Day, a school holiday for area youth and the combination of a school holiday and mini-heat wave brought thousands to area beaches including Brighton.
The youth were screaming and loud as they exited the subway station at Brighton Beach earlier in the day and as they made their way to the beach, according to Dos Lives team members who were in the area. Dos Lives has obtained video below of the chaotic scene soon after the shooting. Please be aware that the video below is graphic and contains strong language.
“They get into turf wars,” said Pat Singer, president of the Brighton Neighborhood Association. “It happens every damn year. Feuds break out.”
Singer said the neighborhood is used to vandals, but rarely does the trouble escalate to gunplay
“A gun is pretty scary,” she said. “It’s really dangerous,” according to the Daily News.
Friday is a popular senior cut day from school and the neighborhood is bracing for more violence.
