New York City Michael Bloomberg responded Monday to a question about the popular Twitter account that pokes fun at his Spanish-speaking ability. @El Bloombito was launched Sunday morning after several of the Mayor’s Irene press conferences where he provided a recap for Spanish-language media.
“It’s great that he tries. Kudos for that,” Rachel Figueroa Levin, 25, said who created the account. “I just felt that … in an emergency like this, get someone who knows how to speak Spanish!”
Her Twitter page soon took off as she posted Spanglish translations from his press conferences. The account has over 10,000 followers as of Tuesday morning.
When asked about the Twitter account, the Mayor responded, “That’s great,” as he continued in a mix of English and Spanish.
The mayor’s Twitter feed then posted a clip of his response asking, “Me escuchas? @ElBloombito?” or “Can you hear me?”
What do you think of the Mayor’s Spanish? Should he continue or have a fluent member of his team address the media?
