Video: Southwest Airlines will sing “Cielito Lindo” for Hispanic Heritage Month

Southwest Airlines will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15-October 15) by singing “Cielito Lindo” across the Southwest system on September 16. The airline also released a video of their employees singing the song (below).

“Cielito lindo” is a popular Ranchera song from Mexico, written in 1882 by Quirino Mendoza y Cort├ęs and is roughly translated as “Lovely Sweet One”. Sometimes the song is known by part of the lyrics, “Canta y no llores”.

Commonly played by mariachi bands, it has been recorded by many artists in the original Spanish or in English and other languages using the melody of the song.

Since the Southwest Facebook update on Monday annoucing he song, it has garnered 379 likes and 224 comments. Southwest Airlines’ Facebook page has 1,686,641 Likes.
