Widespread Power Outage in Santiago Chile halts some Mines, but doesn't Stop Ricky Martin's Concert
Update: Anglo American’s Los Bronces mine and Codelco’s Andean Division were halted by the blackout, Reuters reports.
The Chilean capital of Santiago experienced a widespread power outage Saturday that shut down subway service and lights across the capital city, but it didn’t shut down a Ricky Martin concert at the Movistar Arena which started without problems because the arena has back-up generators to last three days.
Energy minister Rodrigo Álvarez said via Twitter that the government
is checking the causes and problems and will share more once they have additional information.
Areas affected by the blackout include Las Condes, Providencia, Vitacura, La Reina, Peñalolén, Santiago Centro among other zones affected.
