Brooklyn Sex Assault Wave hits 20; NYPD Connects Six More Cases
The New York Police department has added six recent gropings at subway stations to the other sexual assaults that have occurred in Brooklyn since March which brings the total number of attacks to 20, according to the Daily News.
NYPD spokesman Paul Browne told the Daily News that the new cases came to light after the arrest of Adolfo Martinez for a groping in Sunset Park on Monday.
“We want to be as inclusive as possible,” Browne said.
Martinez is being held without bail and appeared in court this week regarding a previous arrest near a subway station in 2007. Since he was near a subway station in that attack, detectives looked for simliar incidents, according to the Daily News article.
Martinez allegedly grabbed a woman from behind and groped her as she was walking near 36th Street between Fourth and Fifth Avenues early Monday. Prosecutors said he followed the 18-year-old victim as she walked home, then “grabbed her buttock” before mouthing a creepy parting message: “Adios, mami!” reports the Daily News.
A $12,000 reward is now being offered in the case that leads to an arrest and conviction. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers. All reward money is paid by code numbers so callers will remain anonymous. Refer to case number BK-2103 when calling.
