YouTube’s first channel for original programming targets Latinos

YouTube launched its first channel for original programming and it’s a Spanish-language channel targeting Latinos.

Clevver Media’s ClevverTeVe Spanish-language news and entertainment channel is the first of the nearly 100 premium channels that YouTube has planned, reported, from a variety of content providers that include celebrities like Jay-Z, Madonna, Tony Hawk and Ashton Kutcher, and well-known media including the Wall Street Journal and Reuters.

“The YouTube original channels initiative will also enable us to expand our international reach,” Clevver co-founder Jorge Maldonado said, in a statement. “Our new ClevverTeVe channel is designed to tap into the rapidly growing Latino market, hungry for high quality and up-to-date entertainment news content.”

Clevver offers ClevverTV, ClevverMovies, ClevverMusic and ClevverGames on YouTube already, according to the article, but the new channels will be part of a premium offering that YouTube is creating to compete against services like Netflix, Hulu and Amazon.

“Our goal with this channels expansion… is to bring an even broader range of entertainment to YouTube, giving you more reasons to keep coming back again and again,” Google write in its TouTube blog describing the initiative.
