Franchesca Ramsey Talks About Making "Shit White Girls Say...To Black Girls" and Her Flap with Perez Hilton
Florida native Franchesca Ramsey is no stranger to making popular videos and she released another hit on Wednesday, “Shit White Girls Say…to Black Girls” that has already garnered over 1.5 million views.
Besides fielding interview requests and promoting the new video, the comedian, designer and blogger fought back against Perez Hilton and World Star Hip Hop who had posted the video and were making a profit off of it without attributing it to her. As a YouTube partner, Ramsey is compensated for each view of her video.
Hilton did not respond to our request for comment, but Dos Lives obtained his e-mail exchange with Ramsey where he wrote that he was just sharing the video with his readers.
“My apologies, as I’ve seen on your Twitter your reaction,” Hilton wrote on Wednesday. “My intention was not to ‘steal’ your work. My intention was to share your very funny video with my readers.”
In a Twitter post Wednesday, Ramsey wrote “it’s wrong to steal someone’s content and then make money off it. point blank.”
In a second e-mail to Ramsey, Hilton wrote that he considered what he did a service.
“And I know many other YouTubers, whose videos I also give a great platform, that are also helpful for my exposure,” Hilton wrote. “You view what I did as a bad thing. I viewed it as a good thing and as helping you.”
Ramsey, who is well known for her hair tutorial videos, has had run-ins with World Star Hip Hop before when they posted her Beyonce Student Loan Parody. She’s also had people rip her videos and repost on YouTube, but one of the worst instances was in 2008.
“Someone ripped a vlog I did with my fiance (then boyfriend) celebrating our two year anniversary and cut it up to advertise an interracial porn site,” Ramsey wrote in an e-mail to Dos Lives. ”It was really awful. Thankfully someone saw it, sent it to me and I had it taken down.”
