Texas teen, Jakadrien Turner, deported to Colombia headed back to US
15-year-old Jakadrien Turner, the Texas girl who was deported in May to South America, is headed back to the United States, the Associated Press reports.
Turner who had run away from home in Dallas was later deported after giving the name of an undocumented immigrant to Houston police when she was arrested for shoplifting.
Jakadrien Lorece Turner left Colombia Friday for the U.S., State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland told the Associated Press.
The girl’s mother, Johnisa Turner, told The Associated Press she’ll be meeting her daughter when she arrives in Dallas and said she has “a gazillion questions” for Jakadrien.
Many facts of the case are still unclear and both U.S. and Colombia officials aren’t taking responsibility for allowing a minor to be deported to a country where she is not a citizen.
Nuland said the case was brought to the State Department’s attention in mid-December.
