Hector “Macho” Camacho Declared “Brain Dead”
Puerto Rican boxer Hector “Macho” Camacho is clinically “brain dead” after being shot in the face, doctors confirmed during a Thursday morning press conference, and his family will decide Friday morning whether to remove him from life support.
Dr. Ernesto Torres said at a news conference that the boxer’s father wants to donate the organs, but is not ready to disconnect Camacho, who has been on life support since the Tuesday shooting. The family will make the decision to take him off life support on Friday morning.
Camacho’s son, Hector Camacho, Jr. missed a flight to Puerto Rico and is expected to arrive Thursday afternoon.
Torres had said late Wednesday that Camacho was showing irregular and intermittent brain activity.
50-year-old Camacho was shot as he and lifelong friend and driver of the car, Alberto Yamil Mojica Moreno sat in a Ford Mustang parked outside a bar Tuesday night. Moreno died at the scene.
