Hector “Macho” Camacho Suffers Cardiac Arrest Wednesday Morning Following Tuesday Shooting

Rafael Rodriguez Mercado, president of the Medical Sciences Campus, told El Nuevo Dia that the former world champion Hector “Macho” Camacho is brain dead.
“It would be a miracle recovery, medically we cannot do anything,” the doctor confirmed.
At a Wednesday afternoon press conference, Medical Center director, Ernesto Torres, said that although Hector Macho Camacho’s prognosis is not good, he is not yet diagnosed as brain-dead.
Earlier Wednesday, Rafael Rodriguez Mercado, president of the Medical Sciences Campus, told El Nuevo Dia that the former world champion was brain dead.
UPDATE 11/21/12 11:25 a.m.: His oldest son, boxer Hector Camacho Jr. is currently in Kansas City and is flying to Puerto Rico Wednesday to be with his father. His son released the following statement: “Thank you to everyone for their prayers, he is a good person, a great father, and it is a tragedy what has happened. The streets are very bad, the violence that we’re surrounded with is unnecessary. Let this be a lesson to today’s youth that we have to make a change in how we are living.”
At the moment, his attorney Linda George and his manager Angie Garcia are being kept up-to-date on his condition.
Former Puerto Rican world boxing champion Hector “Macho” Camacho was shot in the face Tuesday in San Juan and suffered cardiac arrest around 4:15 a.m. Wednesday, according to Puerto Rico newspaper El Nuevo Día and remains in critical condition.
Camacho was rushed to Centro Medico in San Juan, where he was in critical but stable condition, Dr. Ernesto Torres, the hospital director, told reporters Tuesday. His childhood friend and driver of the car, Alberto Yamil Mojica Moreno, died at the scene.
Camacho was in a car that was fired on by unknown gunmen southwest of the capital, San Juan, in Bayamon police said.

The bullet apparently struck him in the jaw but exited his head and lodged in his right shoulder and fractured two vertebrae, Torres said. The doctor said the boxer, who was trailed by drug and alcohol problems during a career that included some high-profile bouts, could be paralyzed from the shooting.
“Camacho’s condition is extremely delicate,” he told Telenoticias. “His physical condition will help him but we will see.”
No arrests have been made in the shooting, police said.
The boxer, 50, won three world titles. His last title fight was in 1997 when he was beaten by Oscar De La Hoya.
Macho Camacho is currently a part of the El Gordo y La Flaca family with his segments of Macho News, he also has his web-reality show, “Es Macho Time” on the YouTube channel, Nuevon.
Camacho most recently launched his own YouTube series.
