There are 47,000 runners registered for the 2012 ING NYC Marathon and in the wake of the devastating hurricane Sandy and the cancellation of the marathon, hopes that many runners will donate their hotel rooms to victims of Sandy.

A new website launched Friday morning,, is helping to house New Yorkers displaced by Sandy is urging runners to donate their rooms to NYC residents who have been displaced from their homes. The people behind the website just need your reservation information and will call the hotels directly to facilitate transferring the reservation.

If you’re a New Yorker looking for a place to stay, you just need to submit your information and we will grant you a room on a first come first served basis.

“It occurred to me that the marathon could go on but we could also do some good by helping connect those who were not going to make it to NYC and would therefore have unused hotel rooms with those who are currently displaced, or without heat and power, wrote Conley Downing, on a statement posted on “We just saw an opportunity to do good and did it. No money is changing hands- we are only accepting reservation information or directing you to an official donation site of which we are unaffiliated. We hope that if you’re able, you’ll help too!”

Please help spread the word about this service and donate on their website.
