Boy George Blocks “Mostly Mexicans” from His Twitter Account

Boy George says he is blocking “Mostly Mexicans” from his Twitter account after a big misunderstanding regarding one of his recent Tweets about Mexico’s new President-elect Peña Nieto.

The singer who fronted Culture Club in the 1980s is being slammed online this week after he Tweeted: “Mexico has a hot new president and I hope he is good for the country,” was misinterpreted as the singer calling president-elect Peña Nieto a tyrant, reported TMZ.

Mexican newspaper Reforma reported that Boy George posted an additional Tweet where he called the President a tyrant, but did not provide a screen grab of the Tweet.

Things got worse early Tuesday when George announced he would be “blocking anyone who annoys me by calling me ‘racist’ or mentioning ‘presidents!” TMZ reported that George says it just so happens that the people annoying George are “mostly Mexicans.”

Not all Mexicans were upset. On Twitter, Cosmic Girl thanked BG for the Tweet and said she hoped the President would be good for the county:

George’s rep says the Tweet was misquoted among Mexican media as: “So the Mexican president is a tyrant. Well, if that’s true Mexico needs good wishes.”

BG’s rep tells TMZ that George has nothing against the Mexican people and calls the whole thing a “ridiculous situation [blown] out of proportion about nothing.”

He adds, “George has no political motivation or even knows anything about the candidates involved or their history, it was simply a good luck to the whole country.”
