Rapper Pitbull is giving back to his Miami neighborhood by opening up his own charter school, SLAM.
The school will be a non-profit, while Pitbull will be using his commercial success to raise funds and get others involved. SLAM stands for Sports Leadership and Management. The curriculum will have emphasis on things such as Sports Medicine and broadcasting in the sports field.
The Cuban- American feels that he owes his success to education. He dished to the Washington Post on how grateful he is for his school experience, “I had a second grade teacher that taught me that yeah there is a way out, and I had an eleventh grade teacher who taught me to believe in myself, and that’s the same thing I want for these kids.”
Mr. Worldwide is set on changing children’s lives by designing a program that will engage one in the learning process. Pitbull wants children to grow up empowered. Although his school has already faced criticisms due to the nature of his persona he assures the public he wants nothing more then a strong educational foundation for today’s youth.
