David Zayas & Lauren Vélez on Dexter Debut on Nuvotv & End of Series

Dexter is back once again. The Showtime hit series will be making its way to Nuvotv.

The basic cable station will be airing all 8 seasons of the bone chilling show for their Latino audience.

Dos Lives got the chance to talk with David Zayas who plays “Angel Batista” and Lauren Vélez who stared as “María LaGuerta.”

When asked how they felt about Dexter being aired on Nuvotv Zayas said:

“I think that Showtime had a limited audience, and I think that now with the opportunity for being on….. NUVOtv starting on Monday, you’re going to get a lot more people that have got the word of mouth out that has heard about the show that are actually going to be able to sit down and watch it.”

During its run on Showtime, it brought in an average of over 2 million views every Sunday.

Being that this was the longest amount of time Vélez has been on a show, she told us how it was working on the set for 7 years.

“The years were all different. The seasons are all different. There are seasons where my character experiences joy and happiness, and others seasons where she experienced profound loss, and all of those things shape you in a way—or shapes me and the work.”

Through the years the audience had a love hate relationship with her character (María LaGuerta). It would great to see how the Latino audience will react.

There were mixed reviews on how they choose to end the series. Back in 2011 at Comic Con the producers revealed that they already knew when beginning the series how the show will end. We were surprised to hear that Vélez wasn’t happy how the show ended.

“I don’t know if happy is a word I would use.” she goes on to say “What I found fascinating is that we started with three women, and all three of them were dead by the end of the show’s run. I don’t know what that says, but Rita, LaGuerta, and obviously Deb all because of Dexter due to him—whether directly or indirectly—died.”

Zayas took different approach when answering this question. “it’s not my place to determine. It’s a matter of me performing what they’ve written, the story that they’ve come up with, to the best of my ability and find as much truth in it as possible.”

Whether or not people loved how the show ended, one thing is for sure and that is Dexter had you glued to your seats the entire time.

Nuvotv will be airing back-to-back uncut episodes starting Monday Jan. 13th.
