Mayor De Blasio Speaks Spanish During Snow Press Conference
Jon | On 04, Jan 2014
Mayor de Blasio was on the job less than a day before a super snow storm blanked New York City with almost a foot of snow in some areas prompting multiple live press conferences giving New Yorkers an opportunity to see the Mayor and his Spanish-language skills.
During a snow press conference this week he shared storm warnings in Spanish, but it wasn’t the Spanish we’ve listened to for the past 12 years from Mayor Bloomberg.
“He could pass for Central or South American,” Gerson Borrero, a columnist and former editor-in-chief of El Diario newspaper told the New York Post. “He was pretty much right on the mark with pronunciation and conjugation, at least colloquially.”
The problem with de Blasio's Spanish is that he a. reads it as if it's Italian b. recites it like he's in a telanovela.

The Mayor told reporters on Friday he still has more work to do to improve his Spanish.
“It was much stronger many years ago, so I’m going to do a lot of work over time,” Mr. de Blasio said as reported by the Wall Street Journal. “But I’m trying my best.”
De Blasio's Spanish isn't nearly as charming as Bloomberg's.
