We recently sat down with Nate Berkus host of NBC’s new one-hour reality competition series “American Dream Builders,
The series follows twelve contestants as they perform major renovations on two homes each week. The 12 contestants are broken up into the two groups and are given a section of a home to not only decorate but to also renovate. The exterior of each home also get renovated.
“These are not amateur designers just trying to win a competition, they have been in the business for many years. Its now their time to take what they know and show us (the judges) what they can do.” Said Nate.
The show is sure to bring the drama. One contestant that is sure to stand out of the groups would be New York designer Elaine Griffin. She’s not afraid to ruffle a few feathers but also brings in the laugh factor. Only time will tell if America will see her for her talents or knight her the new Omarosa Manigault.
When asked about what she thinks of hows shes being portrayed on camera this is what she had to say ” I know I might come off like a diva but that’s because I am a diva and I own it.”
The judges Nate Berkus Eddie George ,and Monica Pedersen are the ones who have the final say of who stays and who goes home but it is the Neighborhood Council that has the final say of which group had the better home improvement and who will be up for elimination.
This is what makes the show stand out from the others. “Me (Nate Berkus) and the other judges do go at it when trying to eliminated someone, they might see something amazing but to me it nothing that i haven’t seen before.”
One thing that caught our attention is that there isnt any follow up after each episode. The families are wowed by how transformed their home is, Its a lot to take in at one time. so after a few months of living in the new home we would like to know if they are still enjoying the new amenities?
Nate explained their plan on this issue. “That’s a great idea, we are looking into that. being that this is just the first season everything is new to us, but we would differently look into in the coming seasons”
We are in the mid season of the show, episode 5 brought in over 5 million viewers.
